Four years ago Coca-Cola came to Emeco, a company known for making chairs, with a proposal. They wanted to show the value of recycled plastic by turning the thousands of bottles processed in their plant each day into an iconic piece of furniture.
The solution: Emeco created the 111 Navy Chair, a plastic version of the 1006 Navy, their renowned aluminum chair that can be found anywhere from Tiffany boutiques to the architectural offices of Frank Gehry. Made from 111 recycled plastic Coke bottles, the 111 Navy is expected to keep three million plastic Coke bottles out of landfills each year. It’s available exclusively at Design Within Reach.
